G. Lalo Verge de France - A5 White (50 sheets)

G. Lalo Verge de France

stationery and correspondence paper is the ultimate experience in writing. The company's history dates back to upper class French and European social correspondence, and it continues to be used today for treasured letters and writing.

Verge refers to the grid of parallel translucent lines ("vergeures") that was formed in handmade paper as the sheets were laid to dry (the origin of the term "laid finish"). The paper is fountain pen friendly, and has a beautiful, subtle texture giving just enough feel between the nib and paper. Once you begin using Verge de France stationery for your thank-you notes and letters, you will never go back.

Thought it would be more textured and more thin. Oh well

Beautiful with a broad nib

I forgot to include in my review that Noodler's Apache Sunset with a broad calligraphy nib looks ridiculously beautiful on this paper.

More versatile than expected

I bought this notebook to write letters with a fountain or dip pen, but I found it somewhat unsatisfactory for that. There is no feathering or bleeding, but the heavy texture made it feel a bit dry. Since I am interested in illustrated journaling, I figured I would try some ink washes and watercolours, and it held up remarkably well! The paint moved and blended well, there was no bleed through, and the buckling was minimal. Pencil crayon also looks nice and vibrant on it. I prefer writing with my Uniball Vision on it better than my fountain or dip pens, but I am still very impressed by its durability and versatility. Too bad I can't include any photos!
