Conklin All American Fountain Pen - Raven Black

The Conklin All American model is an oversized, but well-balanced fountain pen, with a slightly tapered screw cap and barrel to provide nice balance. Made from high-quality handmade resin, this pen is great for those wanting a pen with a substantial feel in hand, but while still maintaining a lightness. The All American stays true to the heritage and quality vintage Conklin is known for, while providing a contemporary update to their legacy.

The All American Raven Black features a black toned omniflex nib that'll add flair to your writing, and a black sturdy "rocker-style" clip, perfect for clipping your pen to a shirt pocket or notebook. Engraved on the barrel with "Toledo, Ohio, USA"; a homage to the origins of the Conklin brand.

Included is a threaded, standard international converter, and this model is also compatible with standard international cartridges (short and long).

4 of 5 Nice flex nib July 2, 2020
Reviewer: Jennifer Lee from Ottawa, ON Canada
Bought this since I wanted a wide body flex nib for work, and it was on sale.
The writing is smooth, and more forgiving for strange angled strokes as a flex usually is.  No adjustments needed; I am using diamine 1864 blue black but will likely try to find a better combo with a drier ink. With my regular scribble it looks like a medium rollerball. A lighter touch gets a finer variation in line width.  Looking at the ink usage after a week, I expect to get about a month of light usage from one converter filled to the max, which is acceptable for me. Screw seals are tight.
I find it light but nib-end heavy, and the barrel shorter than I'm used to, likely due to the nib being quite long. Larger hands might find that they need to use it capped for comfort.  The spring clip is nice and solid.
Overall, I'm happy with the purchase and will not end up in the drawer for a while. At full price over $100 I would probably not buy it, but at a discounted price I'm happy.

2 of 5 Unreliable November 11, 2019
Reviewer: Colin from Saskatoon, SK
The all black look is nice and the pen is very comfortable in the hand but I have found it unreliable. Occasionally hard starts and seems to become ink starved after writing more than ~1/2 a page. I have taken the pen apart and thoroughly cleaned it several times, tried a variety of inks, and it still skips. When I contacted the Canadian distributor for Conklin for advice, I was told that the regular Diamine fountain pen inks that I tried were "destroying the pen", and that I should be using Monteverde inks instead (apparently they are also the distributor for Monteverde as well). Maybe, but it seems odd that they are destroying this pen but work perfectly fine in others...
